Youth Program Registry

The Sparkwind Movement is a statewide effort for Schools Out Washington and the Raikes foundation. The 8ninths design team lead the brand thinking for this Youth Program Quality Initiative (YPQI). See the full site at youthprogramregistry.org and sparkwindmovement.org. I guided brand expression while Anna Heatwole led the UX overhaul.

YPQI Registry Redesign

We team set out to hear the voices of students across Washington and use their insights to guide our copywriting, marketing campaign, web design, and project collateral, all while boldly redesigning the registry interface for the program.Check out the home page and some style examples below.

Here's a look at the hompage and branding creation.

Marketing Collateral

The Team

Me, Anna Heatwole, and Lindsay Shelmire and I were the trio working on iterative research, marketing brainstorming, script writing, web design, andcreative copywriting. I worked mainly on art direction and logo design, with the help of the animation talent Galen Drew and Morgan Kim for the launch video below.

The Process

With our focus groups of students in Spokane and Pierce, we explored the meaning and value of after school programs in their lives. Using a mascot art project, poetry, word bubble brainstorm, and personal sharing, we got to see the unique impact of these programs on student lives. For branding, this led us down several symbolic paths, which we then pursued and presented to School's Out Washington. After they selected The Sparkwind Movement, we created three logos (see above) for the students and Washington Residents to vote on. Here's a glimpse into some of the process:
